Synopsis

Iowa boy Ben Trimble promptly is fleeced of his life savings of $1,000 by Chicago con man Chick Larrabee on his first day in the city. Distraught and hungry, Ben unsuccessfully attempts to rob safecracker Spark Nelson who threatens to turn Ben over to the police unless he becomes his partner. On the day of their last job, Larrabee overhears them and tips off the police, who shoot Spark in a raid. He dies asking Ben to look after his children in the country. Ben escapes and raises the two children while falling in love with Vera Owen, the girl next door, until Larrabee shows up and threatens Ben with exposure if Ben interferes with his plans to trick Vera's father out of a lot of money. Larrabee is shot by a neighbor while fighting Ben after Ben robbed Owen's safe to protect the money. Finally, Ben explains everything to Owen and gets his consent to marry Vera.
