Synopsis

When his father is jailed for moonshining, Lancer Morne quits college and assumes the leadership of his Virginia mountain clan. Fisher Morne, his uncouth cousin, abducts Anemone Breckenridge, their distant cousin, and takes her to Eagle's Eyrie, the Morne lair. Anemone begs Lancer for protection, after which he beats Fisher in a brawl and wins her. Although she detests Lancer, she agrees to marry him "in name only" when she learns that her aunt, Sally Breckenridge, has offered her entire estate as a ransom. Fisher, who wants the money for himself, betrays the clan to the law, then abducts Anemone from the Eyrie. Lancer intervenes, but Fisher shoots him and blames the deed on Anemone. Lancer exonerates his wife, but insists that she be returned to her home. On her way, she sees the approaching posse and returns to the Eyrie to warn the Mornes, thus preventing their arrest. In the end, Anemone willingly consummates her marriage to Lancer, and Aunt Sally reconciles the clan and the law.
