Synopsis

Mrs. Craig is a fastidious and efficient tyrant in her own home, intolerant of dirt and disorder, egocentric, iron-willed, and intolerable. Her younger sister, Ethel, falls in love with a young professor at college, and Mrs. Craig, disapproving of the match, goes to Ethel and makes her promise to end the affair and return home. While Mrs. Craig is away, her husband comes to be suspected of a double murder, and, returning home, she does everything in her power to thwart the police and avert scandal. Mr. Craig is eventually cleared of suspicion in the murder (discovered to have been a murder-suicide) and, realizing at last the selfishness of his cold wife, he leaves home, taking Ethel with him and encouraging her to return to college and love.
