Synopsis

City-born Benton Cabot inherits a run-down mountain farm from his father and decides to try his hand at the rural life. Unable to take care of the place by himself, he takes a job on a neighboring farm, Stork's Nest, which is managed by Bije and Si Stork. Bije favors the pretty, naïve Emmy Garrett and defends his "territory" against Benton, who also likes the simple mountain girl. Emmy laughs openly at Bije's teasing of Benton's city ways, but, in a fit of guilt, writes him a note requesting a visit. Bije intercepts the note, and when Benton calls on the girl himself, Emmy throws him from her house and into a raging storm. Beaten by the storm and tossed into a swollen river, Benton nearly drowns but is saved by Emmy. Certain that Benton is not in love with her, Emmy leaves with Bije, who is now wanted by the police for counterfeiting. Benton pursues the couple, saves Emmy and aids in Bije's capture.
