Synopsis
As wealthy retired surgeon Grayson nears the end of his life, he begins to distribute his wealth to those in need, stating that "all that I have belongs to God." Meeting an ex-convict on a park bench, Grayson gives the man $50. Later, he sees a feeble old woman distraught over the death of her friend and gives her $400. He is not even disturbed when he discovers the "friend" is actually the woman's pet. Grayson's contribution of $50,000 to his own church, however, prompts his nephews to question their uncle's mental health. Sincerely concerned, the nephews bring their uncle to court to determine his mental competence in hopes of restraining him from disposing of his money. At trial, the nephew's attorney calls witnesses who describe Grayson as a generous man who lives his life in the service of others. Taking the stand, Grayson expounds the principles of Christian stewardship, which prompted his contributions to the needy. The prosecuting attorney finds the extent of Grayson's generosity and the logic of his defense perplexing; however, the surgeon's attorney proves that Grayson's dissolution of his wealth is dictated by Christian thought and not irresponsibility. The court then exonerates Grayson of mental incompetence.
