Synopsis

Essie Hardin, resident of a southern mountain hamlet, moves in with the Tolliver family when revenue agents (she believes) kill her father. She falls in love with Tom, the youngest son in the family of bootleggers. Another son, Lem, the murderer of John Hardin, also wants Essie. Tom is badly beaten in a fight with Lem, who, following the fight, announces his intention of marrying Essie. Mrs. Tolliver attempts to thwart Lem by telling the revenue officers the whereabouts of the Tolliver still. She then collects the reward and sends Tom and Essie on their way with it.
