Synopsis

James Camden, a Union officer with a fine combat record, is ordered by President Lincoln to break up a Confederate guerrilla band led by Belle Starr. Camden joins the band by posing as a western gunman and soon falls in love with Belle, a charming southern girl intent on avenging the slaughter of her father. During a cavalry attack, Camden saves Belle's life, and she returns the favor when, after discovering Camden's true identity, her gang wants to lynch him. Camden finally returns to the Union Army without Belle and is sentenced to face a firing squad. Belle again saves Camden's life by giving herself up voluntarily, dying shortly thereafter from a gunshot wound inflicted by one of her discontented followers.
