Brief Synopsis

Boxer Johnny McKinney has come along to the point where he is ready to fight for the championship. His new bride, Betty, asks Johnny for $5,000. Johnny thinks the money is for her, but in reality it is to pay off her brother's gambling debts. In any event, Johnny doesn't have the money, and when his manager refuses to lend it to him, Johnny breaks up with him. Just as the big fight is coming up, Johnny breaks his hand. But in hopes of winning the money his wife needs, Johnny goes into the ring anyway. But surprises await him, inside the ring and out.

Synopsis

Johnny McKinney, an ambitious young prizefighter, meets Betty behind a glove counter in a department store and falls in love. His manager returns from a business trip to find him idolized by Betty, her father, and her younger brother; when Johnny and Betty are married, the brother and father move in with them, and the financial burden is such that Johnny is forced to fight too frequently. In a charity bout Johnny sustains a fractured hand, and he is ordered out of the ring for 3 months. When Betty's brother needs a large sum to cover a worthless check, she tells Johnny she is expecting a baby, but his manager refuses his request for funds. Johnny suffers a crushing defeat in the ring and is embittered toward his wife upon learning of her deception, but they are reconciled when the manager orders her relatives out.
