Synopsis

Socialite Peggy Ainslee becomes interested in helping the underprivileged, and when her father Richard gives her $50,000 in cotton shares she decides to investigate first-hand the deplorable conditions of Southern cotton mills. After she gets a job at Colonel Carter's mill, the foreman tries to seduce her, but she is rescued by Carter's son John. Meanwhile, the proud Colonel Carter has twice turned down Richard's offer to help his failing mill. Stung by the rejection, Richard decides to ruin Colonel Carter by cornering the cotton market. To save the mill, Peggy sells all of her cotton shares to another buyer; then, she brings Richard and Colonel Carter together, and while they reach a financial understanding, Peggy and John plan their marriage.
