Synopsis

Young Bill Daniels, known as "Double Action," goes into town with the cowboys from his father's ranch to see a traveling show. The sheriff attempts to stop the show, and Bill throws him off the stage. The show closes, however, and Bill gets the leading lady, Ruth Fuller, a job working on his father's spread. Old Bill later learns that she is an actress and fires her. Young Bill then leaves the ranch, taking most of the hands with him. Old Bill soon loses his ranch, when Jack Monroe, a real smooth talker, cheats him into signing away his land rights. Old Bill, homeless, comes to town and discovers that Mother Rose, the character actress of the stranded company who is scrubbing floors in the hotel, is in fact his wife, who ran away years before to become an actress. Young Bill gives Monroe a sound beating, and Monroe has him put in jail. Mother Rose tells Ruth that there is a deed, giving her the ranch, hidden in the newel post of the stairway at the ranch, and Rose goes there to get it, pretending that she came to see Monroe. Young Bill's buddies blast him out of jail, and he goes to his father's ranch, finding Ruth there. He rides away in dejection but quickly returns when he hears Ruth scream for help. Young Bill beats Monroe in a fight and acquires the true deed to his father's ranch. Old Bill and Rose are reconciled, and Young Bill asks Ruth to be his wife.
