Synopsis

Forced to choose between two suitors--Percival Fream, a rich landowner, and Arnold Furze, a handsome farmer--Mary Viner, daughter of a retired English sea captain, selfishly marries Fream to escape the poverty she has known, although she really loves Furze. Leaving her father in the care of a nurse, Mary and her husband live abroad for a year. Her experience teaches her that money can't buy happiness; she gets an annulment, marries Furze, and moves to his family farm, "Doomsday."
