Synopsis

Dan Duval, who lives in the north woods with his wife, Jeanette, is plotted against by Bethune and Gaspard, the former a disappointed suitor of Jeanette. Ranger, Dan's dog, attacks Gaspard when he finds him hiding, and Dan mistakenly considers the attack unwarranted and drives Ranger into the woods, where he earns the reputation of "killer." Later, Dan discovers Bethune's perfidy and moves to another district. Bethune and Gaspard unwittingly dynamite a cave where Ranger's mate and pups are hiding, and Ranger takes the one surviving pup to Dan's cabin, where he is adopted. When Jeanette becomes ill, Dan sends the pup with a note to the doctor; Bethune, crazed by Ranger's unremitting attacks, kills Gaspard and goes to the cabin. Ranger intercepts the puppy and delivers the note to the doctor; he returns in time to kill Bethune and save Jeanette.
