Synopsis

Dolly, a spirited little girl, lives with her aunt, a seamstress. The aunt, having been given a lifelike doll that is to be auctioned off at the Red Cross Bazaar, puts the mechanical toy in Dolly's charge and goes out for the afternoon. Dolly tries to protect the doll from her delighted playmates, but they kidnap it, and when they run carelessly with it into the street, its head is crushed. Dolly, ashamed, dresses herself in the doll's clothing and is auctioned off in its place. She then is taken to the home of a wealthy woman, where she charms the woman's invalid daughter. During the night, burglars rob the home and abduct Dolly, but she escapes and returns to live with the ailing daughter as her lifelong companion.
