Synopsis

Playwright Paul Marsh is displeased with the selection (by his manager, Tom Markham) of Billie Mayo for the leading lady in his new play. Returning home, he finds a strange girl playing the violin in his apartment, and when a detective comes to arrest her, she persuades Marsh and his sister to protect her. She confides that she has come from Canada to avenge the betrayal of her sister and the murder of her father. When Paul's sister, Elsa, finds the girl in her fiancé's arms, there is a scene, and the girl leaves. Paul later receives a note stating that Jack (Elsa's fiancé) is the man she is seeking and that she is now about to kill him; Paul and Elsa arrive at Jack's home just in time to see her stab him; suddenly Jack begins laughing and Elsa embraces the girl, who is actually Billie Mayo. Billie has staged a role to prove her dramatic abilities to Paul. He forgives her for the hoax and becomes engaged to her.
