Synopsis

William Ruggles, an American shoe clerk out of a job in Paris, joins the Turkish forces in the Balkan war. During a fierce battle, he rescues a wounded Turk from the field. Although the Turk dies, the man bequeaths Ruggles his fortune out of gratitude. The will stipulates, however, that Ruggles must also accept the guardianship of the Turk's three beautiful wards: Roxana, Rosa and Bulbul. The shoe clerk and his three maidens move to Paris where he renews the acquaintance of Ruth Downing, the daughter of his former employer. The two fall in love, driving Roxana, who also loves Ruggles, into a jealous rage. Roxana attacks Ruth, attempting to hurl vitriol into her eyes, but Ruggles stops her. Roxana then runs away, later marrying a young Parisian. Ruth, however, believing that Ruggles has been intimately involved with Roxana, renounces her love for him. Summoning all his persuasive powers gained as a salesman, Ruggles finally convinces Ruth of his innocence, and she marries him.
