Synopsis
Tom Rumford, a southerner reared by Quaker relatives in the North, has been taught not to fight, and consequently he incurs the disfavor of his family when he refuses to duel with Major Patterson for the favor of his (Tom's) Cousin Elvira. Because everyone except Elvira's sister, Lucy, regards Tom as a coward, he secretly learns from General Jackson all he can about the use of swords and guns. Under the name of Colonel Blake, Tom cows bully Captain Blackie and revenges himself on Major Patterson. Tom wins Lucy's love when he explains that the affair was all a bluff.
