Synopsis
Artist Van Dyke Tarleton is obsessed with his painting of Lucifer but despairs of finding a suitable model, until, out West with his wife Naomi, he meets Bowie Blake. Bowie ignores Tarleton but, strongly attracted to Naomi, agrees to model when she asks him. While painting, Tarleton brutally insults Naomi in order to keep the Lucifer-like hardness in Bowie's eyes. Finally, Bowie can stand the insults no longer and goes away. Not wanting to leave Naomi alone with Tarleton, though, he returns and finds that bandits have killed the artist and are drawing cards for Naomi. Bowie saves her and then tries to make love to her, but Naomi fights him off. Bowie lets her go but tells her that one day he will come after her. Naomi, now strongly drawn to him, makes no promises but encourages him to search for her sometime soon.
