Synopsis

While visiting France, socialite Florence Lanham falls in love with Captain Sam McGinnis and marries him on a whim. When Sam is reported dead, Florence returns to New York, where she keeps her marriage a secret. Florence is on the verge of marrying wealthy William Arkwright when, unexpectedly, Sam appears in civilian clothes and embarrasses her with his flashiness. To teach her a lesson, he accepts a job as butler in the Lanham house. Mrs. Smythe, a young widow, is also attracted to Sam, and Florence, out of spite, decides to elope with Arkwright. Sam and Mrs. Smythe follow the couple and when Florence sees him at her hotel, she begs him to come back, to which he agrees.
