Synopsis

Circe, enchantress of ancient times, turned men into swine by magic. The modern Circe, Cecilie Brunne, accomplishes similar results by liquor. ... Cecilie, disillusioned at 18 after she leaves a convent school in New Orleans, swears that all men will pay for what she has lost. Untouched by the desire she arouses, she torments her victims and levies tribute. Only one man, Dr. Van Martyn, withstands her charms. Piqued at first, she at last becomes desperate, finds life impossible without his love, and gives a wild party at her Long Island villa. At the height of a drunken, gambling, dancing orgy, Cecilie realizes she cannot go on with this life, and she retires to the New Orleans convent. One day she is run over while saving the life of a child, and it is feared that she will never walk again. When the test comes, Dr. Van Martyn walks into the room, and Cecilie stumbles her way to his arms.
