Synopsis

Marines chase Nazi spies from an enemy base and succeed in capturing two, but one of them, Dick Weber, escapes and is reprimanded by his chief, Beckstrom, for failing to steal the secret plans for a new bomb release for American fighter planes. Beckstrom's new orders are for Weber to stay at a nearby country club and reacquaint himself with his former neighbor, Colonel Dale, as Dale's daughter Linda is engaged to Lieutenant Steve Landers, who developed the bomb release. With the help of Weber's compatriot Charles, who is the country club's headwaiter, Weber runs into Linda, who greets him as an old friend. Later, after Steve's mechanics, Jack Murray and Singapore, deliver his latest test report to Dale, Linda unexpectedly encounters the spies searching for the report in her hotel room. Although she calls for help, the spies escape. Meanwhile, Jack and Singapore get into trouble at a nightclub when some drunken patrons insult the singer, Maisie King, for whom they are competing. Jack and Singapore are thrown into the brig, but are soon released, and once again find trouble when they help Linda with a flat tire instead of delivering some papers as they were ordered. Linda intervenes on their behalf, though and convinces the top sergeant to drop the charges against the well-meaning mechanics. With Weber's second attempt at obtaining the plans a failure, Beckstrom orders him to steal the bomb release directly from the Marine base. Jack and Singapore are busy working on Linda's speedboat when they see Weber and Charles arrive. Weber accidentally drops his logbook, which Jack's pet goose picks up from the water and delivers to him. When they learn from the logbook that Weber is headed to Siboney Cay, a supposedly deserted island, Singapore and Jack become suspicious, and report the activities to their superior officer. The Marines are on maneuvers out at sea as Weber and Charles infiltrate the base, blast open a vault and steal the bomb release plans. A general alarm is sounded and the spies escape to their seaplane, where Steve and Marine officers are waiting to arrest them. A message is then sent to the Destroyer Hardy, which deploys a landing craft filled with Marines to arrest the spies at Siboney Cay. Jack and Singapore are decorated for reporting the spies.

Notes

The working titles of this film were Here Come the Marines and Fight On, Marines. The The Exhibitor review mistakenly states that in the plot, "Weber" is engaged to "Linda Dale." The film was shot on location in Florida. It was rejected for general export in 1943 by the New York Board of Review because the Marines were portrayed in the film as amateurish and lacking discipline.
