Synopsis
Oppressed by their tax-greedy comandante, Jaspaz Lorenzo, the Indians of the mountain village of Pala look for aid to Pinto Pete, a masked man whom they know as village idler Juan López. When tax time comes, Father Cantos is attacked by Lorenzo's soldiers. Pinto Pete, with his famed bullwhip, routs the soldiers, but the padre dies after sending Juan to Pinto Pete with a request to look after the mission's welfare. Pinto Pete is finally captured by Lorenzo; but he escapes in a friar's robe, rallies his forces to overwhelm Lorenzo, and is proclaimed governor, with the mission waif as his wife.
