Synopsis
Stern Detective Sergeant Bill Peters, who believes there is no excuse for crime, deeply loves his innocent, motherless daughter Rose. When Peters forbids Rose to date her employer, William Brown, a libertine stockbroker whom she loves, Brown provokes her jealousy until she lies to her father and sees Brown clandestinely. While Rose happily daydreams about intimately taking Brown's dictation, Brown, whose interest in women is piqued by a challenge, begins to flirt with Belle Waring, a new stenographer. When the clerks ridicule Rose's devotion, she complains to Brown and finds him embracing Belle. After Brown says that he never intended to marry Rose, she furiously stabs him with a paper knife and runs off. When Peters is put on the case, Rose conceals her involvement. Once his suspicions about Rose's guilt are confirmed, Peters is about to arrest her when word arrives from headquarters that Brown has dropped the charges. Later, Brown visits to apologize and Peters nearly chokes him to death. After Rose separates them, Peters reluctantly consents to their marriage.

This film is a re-edited version of a three reel film which Vitagraph released on the General Film Co. program on March 16, 1915. It was produced by Broadway Star Features and opened in New York at the Vitagraph Theatre on February 7, 1915. A modern source lists Donald Buchanan as the scenarist of the 1915 version. The original version was copyrighted by The Vitagraph Co. of America; February 15, 1915; LP4464.
