Synopsis
During Prohibition, Bronx gangster Butch Owens is given twenty-four hours to get out of town by the District Attorney. Before the deadline, policeman "Breezy" Kildare is shot as he attempts to prevent violence in a New York club between Owens' gang and that of a rival, Walsh, and is sent to his father's ranch outside Cheyenne to recuperate. In Cheyenne, Breezy meets Joe Carter, a man he once testified against, who is now free and running a speakeasy. Ruth, Joe's daughter, is not happy to see Breezy, with whom she had a relationship, because he helped imprison her father. Breezy arrives in time to thwart Owen's attempt to set up a protection racket among the ranchers. To exact revenge and frighten the ranchers into submission, Owens and his gang shoot some of the Kildare cattle. Breezy and the ranchhands chase the gang into town, where Breezy finds Ruth with Owens. Breezy and Owens fight, after which Breezy gives Owens twenty-four hours to get out of town. Ruth and he then reconcile. When Ruth overhears Owens' plans to kill Breezy, she rides out to warn him, while her father gathers together the ranchers. Owens' men shoot Breezy's father and try to escape, but Breezy and the ranchers chase them into the hills. Breezy captures Owens, who commits suicide rather than face hanging. With the Owens' gang out of the way, Breezy decides to stay in Cheyenne with Ruth.
