Synopsis

Princess Laone, a Hawaiian composer staying in Santa Barbara as the protégée of society matron Mrs. Parrish, falls in love with her nephew, Keith Parrish. Mrs. Parrish convinces Laone that they must not marry because of the difference in their races, so when Keith proposes, Laone refuses and attempts to drown herself. Keith rescues her, but then goes to New York to see his dying father. When he returns, he finds that Laone left for Hawaii with playboy and smuggler Stephen Brainard after Mrs. Parrish told her that Keith had deserted her. Keith goes to Hawaii where Laone repulses him, because, on Brainard's yacht, she was forced to have sex with the playboy rather than be given to the crew. After Keith is arrested for stealing a necklace that Laone knows was smuggled by Brainard, she returns to Brainard's yacht for proof to clear Keith. After a fight, Laone summons the harbor patrol, Brainard is arrested with the incriminating papers, and Laone and Keith become lovers again.
