Synopsis

When American Octavia Bassett arrives in the serene old English village of Slowbridge to visit her Aunt Belinda, she scandalizes the town with her cowgirl mannerisms and willful spirit. Octavia's "barbaric" behavior affronts Lady Theobald, the town's arbiter of social matters, who is trying to marry her shy daughter Lucia to the brash Captain Barold. Upon learning that Lucia is secretly in love with Mr. Burmistone, the town mill owner whom Lady Theobald considers too plebian for her daughter, Octavia facilitates the two shy lovers' romance. Captain Barold then turns his attentions to Octavia, but she proves too much of a barbarian for his staid English nerves. The village of Slowbirdge is finally spared Octavia's unorthodox ideas when Jack Belasys, her estranged sweetheart from America, arrives to patch up their differences and take Octavia back home.
