Synopsis

Performing in Mexico, American opera star Lorelei enthralls Francisco De Sarpina, the governor of the province. Lorelei has no time for him, however, since her fiancé, Marion Leslie, is also in Mexico. The jealous Sarpina has Marion arrested on a trumped-up charge and then orders a firing squad to execute him at sunrise. Sarpina tells Lorelei that he will relent only if she spends the night with him. Lorelei agrees, but during the night she stabs Sarpina to death. She rushes to Marion's cell carrying two passports signed by Sarpina that will guarantee their safe exit from Mexico, but she discovers that the governor had tricked her: he did not commute the sentence, and Marion has already been executed.
