Synopsis

When Cartouche, an old soldier, falls in love with the actress Fifi, he determines to protect the woman he loves. After Fifi wins the lottery with a ticket that Cartouche gave her, it is decided that she should live with the Bourcet family in order to be educated. Believing Fifi to be quite wealthy, attorney Louis Bourcet proposes to the actress, and she accepts. Later she realizes that she really loves Cartouche and decides to break the engagement by squandering her money. She then returns to Cartouche who refuses to marry her because he believes himself too old, at which point Napoleon intervenes and decrees that they should marry, thus forcing Cartouche to accept Fifi's love.
