Synopsis
Reed Powers manages a smalltime baseball team whose star pitcher is Phil Bascom, son of the mayor and brother of Lucille, with whom Reed is in love. Phil plays into the hands of Hastings, a political fixer, and agrees to throw the last game of the season. Reed sees the payoff and is himself accused by Hastings but remains silent to protect Phil. After difficulties, Reed gets work with a newspaper and exposes the efforts of Hastings and "Butch," a heavyweight wrestler, to buck Mayor Bascom. In a climactic chase, Hastings is killed and Reed wins out over the wrestler. Phil confesses his misdeed, Lucille and Reed are reunited, and Reed is appointed chief of police.
