Synopsis

At the turn of the century in the town of Centerville, Casey, a junk dealer, is the hardest hitter on the village ball club and--next to Putnam, the town barber--the most persistent suitor of Camille. O'Dowd, supposedly a big league scout, arrives in town, and at Putnam's suggestion, he signs Casey with the New York Giants. In New York Casey gains popularity by his willingness to buy drinks, all bills being paid by Putnam; and distraction is provided by Trixie of the Florodora Sextette, all of whom he invites to dinner. The tipsy party embark for Coney Island, and following a wild, abortive ride, Casey and Camille are reconciled at a beer garden. Spec convinces Casey that he has been hoaxed, and when he comes to bat, O'Dowd throws the pitcher a trick ball and Casey strikes out. But the conspiritors are captured and the manager exonerates Casey.
