Synopsis

Balzamo, a traveling magician, visits the town where Dr. Emerson and his young wife live and takes Mrs. Emerson away with him in a state of hypnotic subjection. Years later, feeling her death near, she calls her daughter, Dorothy, and urges her to escape the man's evil influence. Dorothy seeks shelter with Mrs. Arnold and her son, John, in a small town, where she finds happiness; but when she becomes engaged to John she changes into a wildly mischievous person who calls herself Becky. Dr. Emerson, a nerve specialist, takes her to his sanitarium, where Uriah Stone (alias Balzamo) claims her as his daughter; but Emerson suspects that he is the magician who long ago persuaded his wife to go away with him. Unable to control the doctor, Balzamo sees his power broken and the girl's mind restored. John Arnold wins Dorothy for his wife.
