Synopsis

Middle-aged Joseph Stagg lives with his housekeeper "Aunt Rose" Kennedy in a small New England village, where he is a leading merchant. After receiving a letter stating that his sister and her husband have been lost at sea, he provides a home for his niece Carolyn and her dog Prince. Carolyn meets Amanda Parlow and learns that it was the woman's disappointing love affair with Uncle Joe that left him a scarred, grouchy bachelor. Carolyn accompanies Amanda on a vacation trip to the mountains. When a forest fire breaks out, Uncle Joe rescues them and his love for Amanda is rekindled. After they marry, Carolyn feels neglected and runs away to her former home in Harlem. Uncle Joe and Amanda follow her there, where Carolyn is reunited with her missing parents, who have been saved from the shipwreck and delayed in their return.
