Synopsis

San San, the daughter of a Chinese mandarin, secretly marries John Worden, assistant secretary to the U.S. Consulate, and lives happily until her father decides, in Worden's absence, to offer her to the Chinese emperor for inclusion in his harem. When he sees San San's baby daughter Toy, the enraged emperor orders the mother killed. Worden leaves the country. Eighteen years later, Toy, raised by the women of the harem, escapes to Manila where she serves as a Red Cross nurse. She becomes engaged to American Lieut. Phillip Halbert, but the young man's guardian forbids the union. Toy is called upon to nurse the stricken guardian, who, in his delirium, reveals that he is Toy's father. Worden, fondly recalling San San, finally relents and blesses the marriage.
