Synopsis

For many years, the destinies of the sleepy town of Arcadia have been controlled by a group of its inhabitants who insist on legislating morality into the local citizens. The town is so uninviting and unattractive that James Rutledge, an industrial magnate, refuses to locate a new factory there. Tom Raymond, the prosecuting attorney of Arcadia, is nominated for mayor on the platform of rigid law enforcement, but he declines to run and the nomination goes instead to Robert Lawton, the father of Alice, Tom's fiancée. Lawton's son gets into trouble in a neighboring town, and Tom decides that Arcadia should have some healthful recreational facilities. He then runs independently for mayor on a platform that will bring innocent fun for the young people back to Arcadia. The governor of the state speaks in Tom's behalf, and this appeal assures Tom's election. A recreation center is erected, Rutledge decides to erect his factory in Arcadia, and Tom and Alice make plans to be married.
