Synopsis

Millionaire "Merry" Perry Merrithew is found dead on the roof of an East Side tenement. The strands of red hair clutched in his hands implicate four auburn-haired women in the murder: a millionaire's daughter, Merrithew's mistress, the daughter of a bankrupt society woman, and a cabaret dancer. In solving the crime, Dr. Clinton Worthing performs heroic deeds.

The film was also reviewed at seven reels in length. A pre-production news item also included in the cast Henry Leone, Frank Nelson, Joseph Chailles, Germaine Bourville, Inez Shannon, Mr. Ackman, Mr. Rothstein, Nathan Marcus, Ethel Kaufman, Peggy Shaw, Mrs. Mandel, and Mrs. Rosen. The Brenon studios were located in Hudson Heights, NJ. At the Brenon studios, J. Roy Hunt headed the photographic department and supervised film cutting; Charles Ritchie was the assistant cameraman; George Fitch headed the technical department; George Edwards Hall headed the scenario department; Joseph Echazebel was Hall's assistant; Louis Plunion supervised the property department; Fred McBann headed the electrical division; Tom Tamagne managed the carpenter department; Tom Smythe directed the scenic division; Mrs. Cashman was the wardrobe mistress; and George Rush was the studio manager. It is not known if all of the above employees worked on Empty Pockets. The film had its premiere in New York on January 20, 1918.
