Synopsis

Jimmie Moulton, who belongs to one of New York's first families, returns East, after having spent two years on a Western ranch, to find that his fiancée, Cora Button, who wanted time to experience life before deciding whether or not to marry him, has fallen under the spell of idler Victor DeLara, also from a leading family. Victor, who has tried to persuade Cora that "Thou shalt not be found out" is society's only commandment, hosts a "Feast of the Gods" at the Ritz, in which many of the "400" appear as figures from Greek mythology. Cora portrays Venus, who loved Adonis, whom Victor plays, but married Vulcan, Jimmie's identity. The events of the night induce Cora to accept Victor's kiss. After he climbs her trellis and enters her bedroom, Jimmie arrives and is shot in their struggle. To protect Cora's reputation, Jimmie accepts the blame for the shooting before he dies. When Cora awakens from her dream, she sees Jimmie fighting Victor on her lawn. After Jimmie avoids being shot, Cora marries him and they spend their honeymoon on the ranch.
