Synopsis

Roland Deane, president of the International Mining Co., owns a South African mine that suddenly becomes valuable after the partners leave because of earthquakes. One partner, Dave Sinclair, steals a bill of sale covering his share of the mine and threatens Deane, who sends John Rowan, the original owner of the mine (and in financial straits), to confer with him on the matter. Deane is about to become engaged to a society debutante when he hears that Sinclair has been murdered and Rowan arrested; Rowan's daughter, Ruth, learns that her father did not commit the crime and finds the missing deed in Sinclair's coat at the district attorney's office. Deane marries Ruth to atone for her father's predicament but is ruined socially and financially as a result. Rowan is sentenced to death; but at the last minute, Sisk is arrested for trying to steal the deed and confesses to the murder. Deane saves Ruth from suicide because of her father, and they are happily reunited.
