The Golden Stallion

With his dying breath, John Forsythe bequeaths a wampum belt belonging to the Coronal Indians to his daughter Joan and tells her that its design pattern holds the key to untold wealth. She must go to the Canadian border town of Cache D'Orr and give the belt to medicine man Black Eagle. Meanwhile, Elmer Kendall, owner of several Northwest trading posts and a senatorial candidate, is dismayed to learn that his nephew Wynne has been involved in a café brawl and decides to discipline him by sending him undercover to Cache D'Orr to check on why the fur catch is below normal and if the factor, Ewart Garth, is cheating him. On the last leg of her journey to Cache D'Orr, Joan becomes trapped in a runaway horse and buggy but is saved by Wynne. Later, they are both threatened by a large herd of wild horses. When Joan reaches the trading post, she tells Garth that she wants to find Black Eagle. Garth then assigns a guide to take her and Wynne to the blind medicine man. Black Eagle tells Joan that he cannot decipher all of the markings on the belt and that the key cipher is branded into the neck of the Golden Stallion, the leader of the herd of wild horses. Garth, however, has already placed a bounty of one thousand dollars on the stallion's head for having lured his best brood mare away, and a number of cowboys are attempting to catch and kill the horse. When Garth learns about the wampum belt, he orders his henchman, Jules La Roux, to steal it from Joan and Wynne and bring Black Eagle to his mine hideout. Many years earlier, Garth had caused Black Eagle's blindness and taken his daughter Wotona as his woman. He now offers to return her if Black Eagle tells him the secret of the belt. However, Black Eagle uses tribal sign language to tell Wotona to send for Wynne to help them escape. Later, as Wynne and Joan find their way into the mine tunnel, Garth attempts to detonate explosives to kill them but is foiled by Black Eagle who escapes with the belt. Joan and Wynne resume their search for the stallion, but Garth finds it first and makes a tracing of the brand on the horse's neck. Wotona, forced by Garth to interpret the brand, states that it contains the key direction to the secret entrance of a gold mine. After Wynne manages to steal the tracing and gives it to Joan to take to Black Eagle, he is captured and held prisoner while Garth and his men catch Joan and lock her in a cabin. Joan memorizes the tracing, then burns it and sets fire to the cabin. La Roux rescues Joan as Wynne, who has escaped, enters the cabin, believing Joan is still inside. In the basement, Wynne discovers Garth's hoard of stolen furs and exits via a tunnel to find the golden stallion nearby. Wynne mounts the horse and rides in search of Joan, Garth, La Roux and Black Eagle. When he finds them, Wynne surprises Garth as he is forcing Black Eagle to reveal the location of the mine, but is beaten by Garth and La Roux in a fistfight. The golden stallion then attacks both Garth and La Roux and drives them to their deaths over a cliff. Black Eagle then takes Joan and Wynne to the entrance of the gold mine as the golden stallion rejoins his herd of wild horses.
