Synopsis
In the Far North, while her husband John is away for a year, Miriam Adare is raped by Arnold Lang. She has a child as a result, then her grown daughter Josephine, wanting to protect her mother's honor, convinces Philip Weyman to marry her, under the stipulation of sleeping in separate rooms, and claims the baby as her own. The child soon dies, and Arnold returns to the Adare's land, this time to terrorize Josephine. He kidnaps her, and threatens to tell John the true story of the child's identity if she refuses to make love to him. Philip, however, who has always loved Josephine, goes after them, and during a fight between the two men, Arnold is eaten by a pack of sled dogs. Later, Josephine tells Philip that she loves him, and thus, months after their marriage, they finally begin living as husband and wife.
