Synopsis

Gleam O'Dawn, an artist living in the Canadian woods, encounters Silas Huntworth and his adopted daughter, Nini; and they become his friends. A daily visitor to the Huntworth cabin is Pierre, a demented halfbreed fiddler who confides to Gleam that Huntworth, who deserted his wife years before, is actually Gleam's father. Pierre, who was in love with Gleam's mother, incites him to face Huntworth with the accusation and to take revenge on him. Huntworth confesses that he was married but was taken ill with fever while searching for gold and was later unable to find his adopted son, left homeless by the death of his wife. Realizing his failure to obtain revenge, Pierre leaves Silas, Gleam, and Nini to their happiness.
