Synopsis

After his sister Elsie has been deserted by her lover and left with a small child, Edward Travers puts her up in an apartment, but tells no one, not even his wife Helen, about the arrangement. As a result, Mrs. Travers becomes jealous when Mansfield, an acquaintance of Travers, tells her that her husband has been visiting a young woman. For revenge, Mrs. Travers begins an affair with Mansfield. She quickly breaks it off, however, which results in Mansfield spreading gossip about her. Then, when Travers visits Elsie, Mansfield and Mrs. Travers, who has followed her husband, also enter the apartment, and Elsie discloses that it was Mansfield who had deserted her. Despite this revelation about Mansfield's character, Travers still believes the gossip about his wife, but finally reconciles with her after she unsuccessfully tries to commit suicide.
