Synopsis
After the death of her father, Linda Haverhill, who has been brought up with wealth and indulgence, discovers that the family fortune has been dissipated. In desperation she turns to John Converse, who lends her sizable amounts of money on the strength of some worthless bonds. She goes to Monte Carlo, where she meets Brian Anestry, a young American with whom she falls in love. Returning to the United States, broke and unwilling to pay her debt to Converse in bed, Linda burns her fine gowns in order to collect the insurance money. This frantic larceny is discovered, and Linda is arrested; on the way to the office of the insurance company, however, the patrol wagon in which she is riding collides with a taxi, killing another woman. The detective who arrested her, caught up in the spirit of the situation, identifies the dead woman as Linda, allowing Linda time to go to South America with an understanding Brian.
