Synopsis

Twelve-year-old Ginger receives many beatings from her father, a small-time crook, in their East Side tenement. Her only respite is going to the movies with newsboy Tim Mooney, who fights for her against other children. After her father forces her to rob a house, Ginger is arrested, but the sympathetic Judge Trowbridge adopts her and sends her father to prison. While remaining loyal to Tim, Ginger becomes friends with the judge's son Bobby. When she returns a beautiful woman after five years education, both boys want to marry her. After her father, now released, spreads a rumor about her relations with the judge, Bobby and Tim quarrel, but soon war is declared and they go to France, while Ginger joins the Red Cross. Bobby and Tim meet during the attack at Chateau Thierry, where Ginger's father confesses his lie. Risking his life, Bobby carries the wounded Tim to a hospital where he dies in Ginger's arms. She and Bobby then marry.
