Synopsis

Dispatched to Tennessee to investigate the sudden interest that a large syndicate is exhibiting in a piece of land owned by his father, Roderick Beverly meets and falls in love with Nessy Worthing, the daughter of one of the local clans who has returned home after a six-year absence in boarding school. Met by suspicion by the local moonshiners, Rod is accused of slaying one of the clan members. A lynching party is gathering when Nessy, desperate to save her lover, promises to marry former suitor Buck Higby if he saves Rod. Meantime, while imprisoned, Rod discovers that the deputy sheriff, Dan Barrows, has concealed valuable mineral deposits on his father's land. The two men fight, and in making his escape Barrows is mistaken for Rod and shot. Buck then confesses to the Worthing slaying and is shot for his crime, freeing Nessy to marry Rod.
