Synopsis

Fast-living roadhouse hostess Beth Vinton marries Dick Thornton, an explorer for a rubber company, after first confessing a past affair with a deceiving married man, whom she untruthfully tells her husband is dead. Dick's company sends them to South America, where Ridgely Torrence, Beth's former lover, appears, wanting her back. Fearing exposure and thinking that Dick's life might be in danger, Beth makes a trap-door in the floor of her bungalow leading to a hidden stream below and leaves Torrence to fall through it to his death. Dick, not knowing that Torrence was Beth's lover, saves him, after which Torrence leaves for New York promising not to bother Beth again. Later in New York, Beth again is pursued by Torrence, who dies after his jealous second wife, aiming for her supposed rival Beth, shoots him. After Torrence dies, Beth confesses everything to Dick.
