Synopsis

Leonard Fayne, sailor and novelist, marries wealthy Isabel Grace. Isabel's attitude and her silly associates hamper Leonard's creative faculties. On the suggestion of Katherine Dare, a sculptress friend, Isabel goes to Europe, leaving her husband with instructions to use her bank account. He refuses her money, gradually drifts downward, and is on the verge of suicide when he meets Ella Klotz, a waif, who is about to kill herself because she is going blind. He takes Ella to his studio to care for her, and believing he owes his life to her, he once again begins to write. Meanwhile, Isabel, who is being pursued by Heminway, an old suitor, realizes her love for her husband and returns from Europe. Heminway tries unsuccessfully to keep the couple apart.
