Synopsis

Jahala Chandler, who lives in a religious community in New England, is forbidden to dance by her stern and bigoted father. Unable to brook her father's narrow views, she runs away to the city for a career on the Broadway stage. There, she meets theatrical producer Jed Brophy and Leach Norcutt, a theater angel. Leach falls in love with her, but Jed, promising her stardom, casts off his former sweetheart, Selma, and hopes to win her submission. When Jahala finds Jed murdered in his apartment, she suspects Leach; thinking she has committed the crime, Leach makes a confession to the police, which is, however, repudiated by Selma, who surrenders. Jahala returns to her rural home, broken by the events. Leach, who realizes his love for her, comes to claim her.
