Synopsis

Maud Marsh, the daughter of eccentric millionaire John Marsh, is strictly supervised by her aunt Caroline Byng, who is plotting to marry her son Reggie to Maud. Defying her aunt, Maud sneaks off to New York City to meet with her sweetheart Geoffrey, whom she has not seen in a year. Once there, she discovers that her brother Percy is following her and, seeking refuge, she escapes into a taxi occupied by musical comedy composer George Bevan, who promptly falls in love with her. To be near Maud, Bevan rents a house on the Marshcliffe estate, but she rejects his advances until she finally sees Geoffrey and discovers that he has become fat and repulsive. With her father's intervention, Maude discovers her love for Bevan and the two marry.
