Synopsis

David Hoskins, a poor farmer in Pennsylvania, raises his two children, Dave and Mulvina. Although Dave is the favorite and receives a good education and nice clothes, he becomes dissatisfied with his life and is lured to the big city by an evil companion. Soon he gets into trouble and is put in prison for burglary. Meanwhile, coal is discovered on the Hoskins' farm, and their situation improves, but Hoskins is grieved that he cannot find Dave, on whom he wants to lavish their new found wealth. Next summer, at a resort, Mulvina falls for wealthy Stephen Wainwright. However, the evil companion of Dave, who has escaped from prison, involves him in the robbery of the hotel where his sister is staying. Learning that Dave is there, Mulvina tells him to hide in a hut next to a nearby cliff, where she will bring him money the next day. The villain follows her to the cliff, where he and Dave fight, falling to their deaths. Stephen, suspicious, had followed Mulvina there and learns the truth. Stephen and Mulvina marry, concealing the facts about Dave from her father.
