Synopsis
After a prologue depicting Adam and Eve's expulsion from the Garden of Eden, Eva Stanley arrives home from college to find her mother engrossed in rescue work for wayward girls. When Eva's sweetheart, John Gilbert, goes West on a government commission, she finds herself lonely and neglected. In her vulnerable state, Eva is lured onto the yacht of Leo Spencer, the ne'er-do-well brother of the district attorney, who drugs and seduces the girl. Returning from the West, John learns that Eva is pregnant and prevails upon a physician friend to perform an abortion. The surgery is a success, but the district attorney learns of the illegal surgery and brings John and the doctor to the trial. To save Eva's reputation, the two men plead guilty, but the truth is finally revealed and Spencer is made to pay for his wrongdoing. John is then pardoned and begins a new life with Eva.

This was the first production of the Corona Cinema Co. According to a news item, the film was going to be shown to the trade in New York at the end of May 1917. It was reviewed in October 1917, and appeared in release charts as a state rights release at that time. Lloyd Carleton Productions acquired it in 1918; Carleton edited the film and released a new version entitled Mother, I Need You to the state rights market through Ernest Shipman in September 1918. Reviews for the edited version do not specify that Eva's operation is an abortion. Scenes for the Garden of Eden prologue were filmed on the Santa Cruz Islands off the coast of Southern California.
