Synopsis

Laura Hamilton rejects Vincent Carlton and marries Theodore Proctor, a bank president. Proctor's brother is desperate for money and approaches Proctor, who makes an unsound loan which results in his removal from the bank. Spurned by his wife, Proctor follows a gypsy's advice and sheds his clothes on a river bank and is believed a suicide. Proctor succumbs to the underworld and Laura marries Vincent. Proctor's identity is later revealed and Laura is charged with bigamy. In order to save Laura from disgrace, Proctor is about to kill himself when he wakes up and discovers he has been dreaming since the time his brother confessed his financial predicament. Proctor resists the embezzlement, his brother recovers his fortune, and Proctor goes home to his wife and child.
